Document Generation Action

Use this action at the point in the process where the case needs a document.

Configure the action

Add a document generation step to the process.
Select the Epistola connection.
Choose the catalog or template source.
Choose the template.
Choose the variant, or let Epistola use the default variant.
Choose the environment.
Map case information to the document fields.
Choose where the generated result should be stored for later steps.

Choose a variant

Epistola selects a variant in three ways:

Omit the variant to use the template’s default variant.
Set a variant id when the process knows exactly which layout to use.
Supply attributes (key/value pairs such as language: nl or brand: acme) and let Epistola match them against the variants on the server.

A variant id and attributes are mutually exclusive. Required attributes must all match; optional attributes only add to the score. When no variant matches, Epistola falls back to the default variant — but when two or more variants share the highest score, that is an error, not a fallback. If Valtimo business rules decide which presentation is needed, let them compute the id or the attribute values; Epistola then uses the id, or matches on the attributes.

After the action

Always add a wait step and a success/failure route after generation. Do not assume the PDF is ready immediately.
